The Supreme Court today said that Hotels and restaurants are not bound by maximum retail price (MRP) in selling bottled water. 

The Apex Court rejected Centre's stand saying hotels can't be prosecuted for selling mineral water above MRP. 

Centre had submitted that selling bottled mineral water above the MRP will attract monetary penalty and jail term for the management of restaurants, hotels, multiplexes. 

The court noted that composite elements of sale and service are there in hotels and restaurants where consumers also enjoy the ambience, invested into by these commercial establishments. 

A bench headed by Justice Rohinton F Nariman observed that it was not a case of a simple sale, saying nobody goes to the hotel to buy or take away a bottle of mineral water.

A former US sergeant who defected to North Korea and became Pyongyang's prisoner for nearly 40 years has died. Charles Jenkins, 77, lived in Japan where he had settled with his family after release in 2004.

He was among four US soldiers who defected in the 1960s and later became North Korean film stars,but was the only one who was released.The others reportedly died in North Korea, including James Dresnok who was said to have died of a stroke in 2016.

In Paris, world leaders gathered to discuss climate change today, exactly two years after the Paris Agreement was adopted. 

The meeting is called by French President Emmanuel Macron. Leaders and cabinet ministers from nearly 100 countries as well as top United Nations officials are invited. 

The gathering is part of efforts to ensure the implementation of the Paris Agreement, which established an international framework to deal with global warming beyond 2020. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and others took part in a morning session. 

Topics of discussion included how to secure 100 billion dollars per year for climate action in developing countries. US President Donald Trump has announced his country's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. 

He has also said his country would stop contributing to a fund for developing nations.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda launched new initiatives including Laqshya-A Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative and safe delivery application at a function in New Delhi on the occasion of Universal Health Coverage Day yesterday. 

Laqshya initiative is expected to improve the quality of care that is being provided to the pregnant mother in the Labour Room and Maternity Operation Theatres, thereby preventing the undesirable adverse outcomes associated with childbirth. 

Mr Nadda said, this will be implemented in Government Medical Colleges besides District Hospitals and high delivery load Sub-District Hospitals and Community Health Centres
